A Rickshaw That Changed a Family’s Future
After losing his job in the pandemic, a father of four couldn't pay the rent. A rickshaw from SKF made him self-employed, and now he drives neighbourhood children to school for free.
Mr. Ghulam drove an intercity bus until the pandemic took his job. With four young children, a wife and an ailing mother to support, he tried everything: cooking in a restaurant, a street food stall, renting a rickshaw for night deliveries. After paying the daily rickshaw rent, almost nothing was left.
SKF’s team followed his situation for six months, then bought him a rickshaw of his own through SKF’s Family Empowerment program.
Within six months his income was steady and his family’s needs were met. His own children go to school, and he gives other children in the neighbourhood free rides to school in his rickshaw.
