Program 4 · Family Empowerment

When families earn, children learn

Educating one child can transform a family, and empowering one family can strengthen a whole community.

The challenge

Poverty pulls children out of school

When a parent loses work, children are often the first to be sent out to earn. Lasting change means helping families build a stable income so their children can stay in school.

What we do

Income, skills and a safety net

Self-employment

Our first project bought a rickshaw for a father of four who lost his bus-driving job in the pandemic. Within six months his family was stable, and he now drives neighbourhood children to school for free.

Support for mothers

Eid cash gifts, hygiene kits and inclusion in school life, because mothers are SKF’s closest partners in every child’s education.

Emergency assistance

When a crisis hits a family, SKF steps in with targeted help so a child’s schooling is not interrupted.

Give a child the chance to learn

$250–$350 covers a child’s full year at an SKF Learning Center: teacher, books, uniform and a daily healthy snack.
