Year-End Report 2022: Flood Relief, Health & Hygiene and Family Empowerment

Twelve Rising Star scholars, flood relief in Sindh, the launch of SKF's Health & Hygiene and Family Empowerment programs, and holiday gifts for 85 children in Palo Alto.

Learning Center and scholarships

  • Third and fourth cohorts: four children passed the admission test for a reputed public school in August, and three more joined a private school in November, bringing the total to 12 Rising Star scholars.
  • A robot serves lunch: children visited a Multan restaurant where food is served by a robot built by a local engineer, who encouraged them to keep studying.
  • Independence Day, Teachers Day and Result Day celebrations.

Flood relief (September)

Pakistan’s floods affected more than 33 million people. SKF volunteers delivered 150 food packets and mosquito nets to flood-affected families in Haji Peer Dino Bijoro, Sujawal district, Sindh.

Health & Hygiene program launched (11 November)

  • A health and hygiene session for 40 women and girls: students, mothers and other female relatives. Each now receives a monthly hygiene kit.
  • Vision screening for all 27 children by a volunteer eye specialist, with free follow-up appointments.

Family Empowerment program launched

SKF bought a rickshaw for a father of four who lost his job as a bus driver during the pandemic. Within six months his income had stabilised, his children were in school, and he was giving neighbourhood children free rides to school.

USA

  • SKF’s booth at OPEN Silicon Valley Forum 2022.
  • Holiday gift cards, pizza and treats for 85 children at Buena Vista Mobile Home Park, Palo Alto.
