SKF opens its first Learning Center in Multan

Ten out-of-school children, one room and a volunteer teacher: the first SKF Learning Center opens in Multan, Pakistan.

On 2 March 2018 Street Kids Funds opened its first Learning Center in Multan, Pakistan. Ten children aged 4 to 12 enrolled on day one. None of them had ever been to school: their parents could not afford the fees, and the children spent their days on the street, sorting garbage, selling goods or working as house help.

The center started in a single room with a volunteer teacher, six days a week. Every child received a uniform, shoes, books, stationery and a daily snack. Lessons covered reading and writing in Urdu and English, basic maths, stories, drawing and play.

Within two months the class had grown to 15 children. Two of those first students later became our first Rising Star scholars.
