How to sponsor a child’s education in Pakistan: a donor’s guide

What sponsoring a child's education in Pakistan costs, what to check before you give, and how to make your gift tax-deductible in the US.

For $250–$350 a year, about $21–$30 a month, you can give an out-of-school child in Pakistan a full year of education through Street Kids Funds. Here is how sponsorship works, and what to look for in any charity before you give.

What to check before you choose a charity

  1. US tax status. Is it a registered 501(c)(3)? Only then is your gift tax-deductible. Street Kids Funds is a California 501(c)(3), EIN 82-1891756.
  2. Local registration. Is the work carried out by an organization registered in Pakistan? SKF’s programs are run by Street Kids Rising Scholar Foundation, registered with the SECP since 2023.
  3. Published reports. Can you read what the charity did with last year’s money? SKF has published every annual report since 2018 on its Reports page.
  4. Results you can verify. Look for named outcomes, not just photos. SKF scholars have ranked 7th, 18th and 27th in Pakistan in international Kangaroo contests.
  5. Who is paid. SKF’s board serves voluntarily; donations fund teachers, scholarships and family programs. See where the money goes.

What your sponsorship pays for

  • At a Learning Center: a caring teacher, uniform, shoes, books, stationery, a daily healthy snack and health checks.
  • As a Rising Star scholar: admission and monthly school fees, uniform, books, exam fees and term-by-term follow-up.

How to sponsor with SKF

  1. Choose a monthly or one-time gift on the Donate page, or give by Zelle or check.
  2. Check whether your employer will match it: see corporate matching.
  3. Keep your receipt for your tax return.
  4. Follow your impact through our mid-year and year-end reports.

To protect children’s privacy and dignity, SKF sponsorships support the program as a whole rather than a single named child. Ready? Sponsor a scholar.
