In Pakistan that has a population at present of nearly 216 million, the population living in slums (% of urban population) was reported at 45.5 % and rising according to the World Bank sources. Around 32% are under the age of 15 years and in major cities a rough estimate shows that there are between 1.2 to 1.5 million children roaming the streets. These children are denied basic rights such as access to basic education, healthcare or shelter and therefore become an easy target to various kinds of exploitation.
